Use: To easily move the probe between solutions, tighten or loosen the red knob on the articulated arm holding the probe, it’s pretty slick.
Calibration:
To calibrate, follow the instructions on the page sticky-noted on the manual on the shelf above the meter with the buffer aliquots. For a 3 point calibration using the 4, 7, 10 buffers, you may need to manually enter the values, it shouldn’t need to be done again, but instructions for how to do so are in the manual.
Best Practices:
- Rinse the probe in clean water between every solution it touches. Use milipore filtered water ideally if you’re making something sensitive like saline or internal.
- Give the probe a really good 5-10 seconds swirl at the beginning of a new measurement (or, to be safe, do it before starting a reading, I don’t know if this meter will get confused like the last one). Without this, it may take far longer for equilibration.
- NEVER let the probe dry out, and always store it in the probe storage solution. There’s a convenient little holder at the base of the arm for it. Our current probe instructions declare long term storage in probe solution is fine.
- Treat glass electrode carefully, and don’t crash it into the sample vial.
- Replace the probe if it isn’t working well. The standard lifetime for a well performing probe according to the manufacturer is about a year. In practice they can last much longer than this, especially if used infrequently.
