This is a DNA construct management tool that is very useful when building new DNA plasmids. It keeps DNA sequence information together with user- and software-defined annotations in a user-friendly graphical format.
In June 2013, we purchased a non-expiring Windows license for this software that can be used on ONE computer at a time. The software can be installed in demo version on multiple computers, but full functionality (saving and exporting) is available for only a single machine. Please check with other lab members before converting your copy of the software to full functionality.
STEP 1: Install the “demo” version. 1. Click on the following link to download the GCK 4.0 demo version for the Windows platform:
http://www.textco.com/files/demos/GCK4-Win-demo.zip
This will download a zipped archive (called ‘GCK40-Win-demo.zip’) of the application and associated files. If this file does not automatically ‘unzip’ you’ll need to extract the contents. You should be able to right-mouse click on the GCK40 Demo Zip file, select ‘WinZip –> Extract to here’. This should extract a folder titled, “GCK40-installer”.
2: After unzipping, look into the ‘GCK40-installer’ folder and double-click on the file called ‘Setup.exe’ to launch the installer. Click ‘OK’ or ‘Yes’ at the prompts to install the program into the default location (the ‘Programs’ directory on your primary hard drive).
- To complete the install, launch the demo version of the program by double-clicking on the application icon (titled; “Gene Construction Kit”) - or selecting it from the ‘Start –> Programs –> Gene Construction Kit 4.0’ menu.
STEP 2: Converting the demo into your new GCK 4.0 Serial Number (40449)
1: Choose the “Help –> License Info” menu option
2: Press the ‘Activate…’ button, and enter the following 20 letter activation code: AKRD TKPC WJXA SMYU DSHF
** NOTE: a code should only be used once to avoid license conflicts **
After entering the code, press OK. The license info window should have updated the serial number to 40449 and the License Type field should say “Network”. Now, you can click the ‘Personalize..’ button to enter your name and organization before pressing OK to close the ‘License Info’ panel.
- Quit - then relaunch GCK 4.0 to make sure the activation was successful (check the License Info panel for your details - serial number, license type, name, etc.)
