Under construction!
For physiology dissections we typically use some kind of adhesive to restrain the fly. UV-cured adhesives are very convenient because they tend to cure very quickly.
WARNINGS:
- UV light is dangerous! It can lead to short-term blindness and long-term damage to the skin and eyes.
- Do not expose your skin to the LED, wear gloves or move your hands.
- Do not look directly at the LED or at light emitted by the LED.
Commonly used adhesives:
- Loctite 3972:
- Fluoresces blue with UV light, cures with a small amount of surface tack
- Note there is also a less viscous version, Loctite 3971, that can also be useful.
- Bondic:
- Cures quickly, viscous enough to form small beads
- Can be cured with the blue LED light that it ships with
- Aquaseal UV+
- Cures very hard with low surface tack
- Cures quickly with ambient room light
