How to place orders using HHMI’s procurement system - AKH, 3/11/24
1. Pack up the forceps and complete the Corte order form
Gather up the forceps that you’d like to have sharpened and check each pair quickly to make sure that they’re not super gnarled and completely beyond repair. They should all have protective plastic tips. Separate out the number of forceps that you want to be sharpened into A tips and D tips and put them in separate baggies with tape labels, e.g., “5 pairs, type A”. Pack them up in a small, well-padded box. Type A tips are longer and finer/sharper – good for desheathing. Type Ds have slightly shorter shanks and are a bit bigger and bitey-er at the very tip – good for removing little bits of airsac and fat without puncturing the sheath. People seem to like both, so I try to make sure we have a 50:50 stash of As and Ds in the “freshly sharpened forceps” box at all times.
Complete the order form found in the “Ordering” section of the Corte Instruments website (http://www.corteinstruments.com) as shown in the example below. Make sure that the number forceps and preferred tip sizes match what you will be shipping to them. Save this document as a PDF and print out a paper copy to include in your shipment box.

2. Create a shipping label with FedEx
Log into the lab FedEx account (username: WilsonRach, password: F1ypokers) and create a shipping label. Corte’s shipping information should be saved in the Shipment Profiles drop-down menu. Their address is also available on the website. Make sure everything looks good and click the “Ship” button at the bottom of the page. Print the shipping label, affix it to your package, and drop the package in the FedEx collection box. The FedEx collection box is located at the building exit on the dental school side.

3. Place the order with HHMI
Log in to HHMI’s procurement website and create a new requisition. Add a non-catalog item and select “Corte Instruments” as the supplier from the drop-down list. Make sure that you (1) type the highlighted message below into the Comments section and check the “Visible to Supplier” box below it; (2) upload a PDF copy of the Corte Instruments order form and check the “Visible to Supplier” box next to the document. Update the “Qty” and “Price” values in the Line Items section to reflect the number of forceps in your package. The price per item will depend on the number of forceps you’re sending because Corte offers discounts for bigger batches of forceps. Visit the “Services” section of the Corte Instruments website for prices. Also, include “Pricing is from website, listed under “Services” http://www.corteinstruments.com/ in the notes to supplier box along with a reference to the attached order form. Once you’ve entered all these values, submit the order.
