Autoclaved glassware#

Autoclaved glassware is found in the lower cabinet next under the chemicals bench. As it gets depleted, you’ll need to replenish this yourself. The first thing to do is to get training from Steve Sleboda in the operation of the glasswashers and autoclaves on the second floor. To do a glassware run, borrow a trolley from Tanya in the Yellen lab. Take a couple of autoclavable trays from the lower cabinet opposite the glassware (these are the larger trays on the bottom). Autoclave tape is in the “molecular biology drawer”and aluminum foil is on the shelf above. First run thing through the washers, then the autoclave. For smaller items like lids, there is heavy netting to put above the tray inserts, however, this doesn’t work well for stir bars, which end up at the bottom.

Reagents#

Order ladders and enzymes from either Fermentas or the Biopolymers Facility. Agarose is ordered from ISC BioExpress. Competent cells can be ordered from Invitrogen using the Shatz lab account number (to avoid shipping charges) and our own shipping and billing addresses. Competent cells are stored in our -80 freezer in the common equipment room. LB can be ordered from Sigma, or borrowed from the Yellen lab. Antibiotic plates also can be borrowed from the Yellen lab (talk to Tanya). Another good contact for molecular biology reagents is Fitz in the Sabatini lab. For minipreps, P1 and P3 are in the fridge, P2 is on the shelf above the centrifuge. For making P1, the RNaseA is on the chemicals shelf.

Oligos#

Order oligos either through our Sigma-Genosys account or through the Biopolymers facility. If you use our Sigma-Genosys account, all email correspondence about oligo orders will go through wilsonlab@gmail.com (password flypokers).
